When most people think of “Church,” they think of a building with pews or chairs and some sort of church service that you come to and attend and then leave.
If you read the New Testament in the bible, you get a different picture. When you read about the church, you’ll notice that the church is not a building or even a meeting, but the people who have committed to being disciples of Jesus and are working together to spread the message of salvation found in Jesus.
At its heart, the micro-church is this extended spiritual family. It’s not merely a small group, program, or side ministry.
An extended spiritual family, led by ordinary people, living in everyday Gospel community, and owning the mission of Jesus where they are.
We believe church can be surprisingly simple and yet powerfully effective. In order to be both, we consider there to be three ecclesial minimums.
Worship: Offering our whole lives to Jesus as an act of worship (Romans 12:1). Micro-church members disciple one another to grow in obedience and adoration toward Christ.
Community: Living out the “one another” commands of Scripture, from loving and bearing burdens to teaching and encouraging one another (Galatians 6:2).
Mission: Making disciples and joining the mission of Jesus to bring good news, healing, and change lives (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8).
These three functions—worship, community, and mission— are what we call the ecclesial minimum. They are the irreducible core of what it means to be the Church. The micro-church is uniquely equipped to embody these essential functions of the Church.
Worship, community, and mission can all take on many expressions, so our micro-churches can as well. With God at the center the possibilities are truly Limitless.
